The Sun looks over the backyard from the front gate.
Will these ever bloom? I do not recall sedums "Matrona" blooming so late. They are usually in full or at least partial bloom by August and here we are at the end of August, they still have time to bloom, I just don't recall them blooming this late.
The bees are waiting too, they love Sedums and go nuts over my Vera Jameson, Matrona and Stardust.
Below: I love the color and form of Vera Jameson, she is a clump forming sedum and when planted in containers she looks lovely cascading over the sides. Below: Sedums " Vera Jameson"
Below: Sedums "Star-Dust" when in bloom has lovely pink flowers. Perhaps all of my sedums will be in bloom by the 15th and I can display then during Garden Blogger's Bloom Day.
Below: The Moon Plant or Moon Flower is one of my Mother's favorites. The scent of it smells similar to a gardenia. It's called a Moon flower because it blooms late in the evening or at night. In the future I'll be smart enough to plant more then just a few..But will do so in containers because Moon flowers will take over your garden.
Below: I put out a feeder for the chickadee's and have now stopped feeding them by hand. Feeding them by hand was a lot of fun, but after a while they began to chase me all over the yard looking for seeds from my hands, so I put out the feeder.
Below: The chickadees favorite place to take a drink. I must remember to place small containers out in the future for smaller birds to drink and bath from.
Below: I've fallin in love with Buddhas and will have more in the future, for me they represent peace, and harmony and like other garden art or statues I choose them solely for decoration.
This one has a solar light.
Meditate. Live purely. Be quiet. Do your work with mastery. Like the moon, come out from behind the clouds! Shine. Buddha

Oh, I love your Buddhas. You have a nice variety of sedums. They are very lacy and delicate. I'd be patient. The late bloomer will probably bloom soon. And perhaps I should plant moon flowers. Here I think they are an annual. You will have to tell me how to plant a moon flower. Do you start from seed?
ReplyDeleteI love the statues as well. And your Sedum is doing wonderfully! (A perfect plant for fall.)
ReplyDeleteI love Sedums almost as much as the bees do. Mine are just starting to bloom. I love the colors of yours!
ReplyDeleteI'm imagining you being chased around by hungry Chickadees LOL. They sure are cute birds. They seem to like drinking out of the smallest things in my yard.
Love the Buddhas and the quote.
Ann... I purchased mine as a plant at a local market, but you can grow them from seed. I read that they may be started indoors or out after the danger of frost passes, cover them in soil 1/4" deep, water them once, and they will do the rest.
ReplyDeleteRosey... Thank you, they are the perfect plant for fall I'll have to add more in the future because they are garden back bones for the fall.
Catherine... Thank you. The chickadee's have sat on my head and the heads of my guest, on my shoulders, camera, books, and would even follow me to the front of the house while I'm watering the lawn... OUT CAME THE BIRD FEEDER LOL!
They have taken to it now and are now sane..LOL!
I love the moon flowers! What a great name for some pretty flowers.
ReplyDeleteAngie my thoughts mirrors yours. I thought it was the perfect name for this flower.
ReplyDeleteI love the sedum and the moon flowers are so unique. Your Buddha's are great. They do add a calm to your garden.
ReplyDeleteHoping for a break in the heat. They say a high of 76 tomorrow. Seems hard to believe after today.

ReplyDeleteThank you Linda. Can you believe we are still having heat issues. We are suppose to get relief by Tuesday.
ReplyDeletei can't believe how over-friendly the chickadees became! that's so funny and adorable. but i can see how it would get irritating. i love your moonflowers and buddhas.
ReplyDeleteYour sedums are always my favourites Vetsy. I don't have the opportunity to grow them here yet. They look unique and I am sure they are long lasting. Interesting plant to have and addition to any garden :-D Btw, I love your moon flower also.
ReplyDeleteThank you Emily I was so happy that I found a solution, because I couldn't open my back or front door with-out them trying to get in Lol!
ReplyDeleteThank you Steph I've learned to like them after my Mother bought a few and then they grew on me.
I love your buddhas. I have often thought of adding one or two in the garden. A friend of mine has one by her pond to keep away herons...it works! Your moon flower is a bit different than mine...a different variety perhap. I like the blooming in twos or threes...very nice.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely post. Imagine my surprise when I saw your Moonflowers...I planted two containers with them. Many, many buds about ready to burst open but I worry that we may run out of warm weather before that happens.
ReplyDeleteDo your sedums stay in the containers all winter? Do you cover them? They are all so pretty. I had 5 of my big Autumn Joy sedums die out over the winter. They had them in the ground for about 7 years.
I luv the visualization of the chickadees chasing you around the yard.
My dad died back in July and I'm slowly coming out of my funk. It's been a long year. Nice to be back to reading my favorite blogs.

Thank you Sherry, I'm glad to know that Buddhas have several uses. I'm glad you shared that story with me about your friends Buddha, I'll keep that in mind...Good tip
ReplyDeleteDonna I'm so sorry to here about your dad. I remember the post you did on him with your mom holding his hand in hers...I liked the photo.
I keep my sedums in containers and they stay outdoors all winter with-out any protective cover..So far they have been fine.
Vetsy, the thought that you remembered the hand holding photo almost made me cry. What a tender heart you have.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info regarding sedums in containers. I may try that next year.

Your are Welcome Donna... I hope that you and your mom will find comfort and peace as you share his wonderful memories.
ReplyDeleteSedums seem to be blooming everywhere now, yours are lovely. The moon flower is really special, so pure and white. I love all your garden decorations, especially the Buddhas. I feed the birds using a dish. Buddha figures are expensive and it is difficult (almost nil) to find bird feeders here.
ReplyDeleteAutumn I always learn something new from you.. I had no idea that it is almost nil to find bird feeders there. I assume perhaps one of the reason is that feeding birds can be a messy ordeal.
ReplyDeleteDear Vetsy, Your garden looks very peaceful. Love the sedums -- they are a big favorite of mine being very easy to grow and reliable. P. x
ReplyDeleteThank you Pam. You are so right about the sedums being easy to grow and reliable which is exactly why I like them.
