The corn is turning brown
The trees in apple orchards
with fruits are bending down
The gentian's bluest fringes
are curling in the sun
In dusty pods the milkweed
It's hidden silk has spun
The sedges flaunt their harvest,
In every meadow nook;
And asters by the brook -side
Make asters in the brook,
From dewy lanes at morning
The grapes' sweet odors rise;
At noon the roads all flutter
With yellow butterflies.
By all these lovely tokens
September days are here,
With summer's best of weather,
And autumn's best of cheer.
But none of all this beauty
Which floods the earth and air
Is unto me the secret
Which makes September fair.
'T is a thing which I remember,
To name it thrills me yet:
One day of one September
I never can forget. Photo credits: September morning by Darionka of flickr

ReplyDeleteThank you Rosey I thought so too"
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty poem, just loved the words. As much as I'll miss summer I do love September and watching the colors change.
ReplyDeleteVetsy, how are you? I've missed visiting your blog. Not sure when things will get back to normal around here, but I've decided to try and visit a few blogs every day.
ReplyDeleteWhat's not to luv about September? Even our weather has turned cooler. Has it made its way across Lake Michigan yet? The thought of the apple orchards filled with fresh apples makes me drool. Honey Crisp is my favorite apple.
I enjoyed this pleasant post. Hugs, donna
Hi...Catherine I always mourn the Summer as it passes, because it is so short lived here in Michigan.. But I also appreciate and love the beautiful days that Autumn brings..
ReplyDeleteHi... Donna that Honey Crisp sounds like a good apple. I'm starting to get those fall cravings for Apple pies and Chocolate goodies as our weather becomes cooler.. today we dipped to a windy 54 degrees Brrrr!.. Thank you both for stopping by..
Vetsy ~ I loved the piece your posted along with the lovely pictures. I love September as I so look forward to autumn every year, which may or may not happen for a couple of months yet for us.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog. I'd say the bougainvillea can be a monster. It grows like crazy sending out long, thorny canes and I have to deal with it delicately because those thorns hurt. I try to keep ours at bay, but sometimes they get out of hand. I have to use a pole cutter and sometimes DH gets on a ladder to get what I can't. Now that I think about it, I don't think they would survive up there where you are. I just checked and it's for zones 9-11.
Your cooler temps sound great. Hope we get some soon. One can wish.
FlowerLady
Thank you Flower Lady for getting back to me on that Bougainvillea , I'll try to wish some cooler weather your way...

ReplyDeleteSeptember is the month for me. Your first picture is really very beautiful and it is the one scenery that has captured my attention. I can just stare at it for a very long time. What more with the beautiful, accompanying words, poems and flowers. Cheers to you!
ReplyDeleteAutumn Belle... Thank you, I'm so glad you liked it... Nice to meet you..
ReplyDeleteDear Vetsy, Thank you for reminding me how special this month is! I have been busy mourning the end of summer and complaining it went by too fast. I need to take a breath and enjoy the beauty of September. Lovely post. Pam x
ReplyDeleteThank you Pam...
ReplyDeleteYes, I am with Pam in what she said. That was a beautiful post, but I'm confused about what the one special remembered day is. Was that left to our imagination, or did I miss something?
ReplyDeleteNow, I'm off to read your post about collections. I have some of those, maybe too many.
